Precious is our foundation broodmare. No matter who we breed her to, she seems to put foals on the ground with really nice movement and exceptional conformation. She is very typey and has the huge snow white mane and tail that Haflingers are famous for. Her gaits are fluid and loose strided. She is the matron or our little herd and rules with a gentle, but firm style. She's a wonderful mother to her foals and a joy to have around the farm. In 2005 we decided to have Precious inspected thru the American Haflinger Registries' Inspection and Classification program. Her daughter ND was inspected previously and had done quite well. We had planned to have her daughter PIM inspected in 2005 as well. People said we were crazy to take a 13 year old mare carrying her 10th foal to be inspected. Those same people said "you know, once a brood mare, always a brood mare". While we admit conditioning a pregnant mare that age was quite a different undertaking, the results were well worth the effort. Part of her conditioning included being started under saddle, which she took right to and seems to enjoy. At the inspections Precious scored 78 points and earned a Silver ribbon! The judges loved her and had many nice comments about her. She received "8's" in type, head, neck, forehand, front legs, midsection, correctness of movement and overall movement. On that same day her daughter PIM scored 81 points and was given the elusive Gold ribbon! It was a great day for us by any standard. After the inspections, since Precious was in such great shape, we decided to permanently put to rest the "once a brood mare, always a brood mare" controversy. Precious made her debut in the show ring at 13 years of age at the AHR National show. She took it all in stride in typical Haflinger fashion and we all had fun. For both the 2004 and 2005 American Haflinger Registry National shows, two of Precious' daughters (PIM and ND) teamed up to win the prestigious "Produce of Dam" class. In 2006 PIM and ND were joined in the Produce of Dam class by Precious's son, Wasabi VHH. The group won the class again giving Precious the blue ribbon for Produce of Dam class for an unprecedented three consecutive years at the AHR National Show. They are doing their mom very proud! Precious had a colt by the imported stallion "Alois" on March 26, 2006. We named him "Angus VHH" and he has been gelded. Gus has a sweet personality and lots of trot! He has very clean, correct, long legs and at birth, was one of the tallest foals Precious has ever had for us. We are enjoying watching him grow. Click here to see more about Gus. On March 16, 2007 Precious had a colt by Magnum RVM. We have named him "Magneto VHH" but he goes by Rex. He seems to be determined to be larger then last years colt, Gus, and is growing like a weed. He has a huge hindquarter and is well balanced and correct. Click here to see more about Rex. At the 2007 AHR
Inspection and Classification in Michigan two more of Precious' offspring earned
Silver ribbons. This means she now has 1 Gold and 3 Silver inspected
foals. As such she is now the first (and at the present time the only)
mare to have earned the status of an "ELITE" mare under the registry's
inspection program.
